About this product

Product Information

A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is the story of David (Haley Joel Osment), the first mecha (a futuristic term for a mechanized human being) designed with the ability to love. A couple whose son is in a coma "adopts" David to help them recover from their loss. Naturally, things do not go as planned, and David is forced to leave the mother (Frances O'Connor) he's been "imprinted" to love, and make his way in the world. Traveling with Teddy, a hi-tech stuffed bear, David escapes the Flesh Fair, where angry humans destroy mechas to "purge artificiality," and unexpectedly befriends Gigolo Joe (Jude Law in a wry performance), a robot designed to pleasure women. Joe agrees to help David in his quest to become human. Director Stanley Kubrick originally developed A.I., at one point asking Spielberg to direct it. When Kubrick passed away, Spielberg took the reins. Using a treatment and thousands of drawings commissioned by Kubrick, Spielberg wrote his own screenplay (his first since 1979's CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND). Osment, perhaps the only pre-teen actor who can effectively convey existential angst, gives a marvelous performance, helping Spielberg create a gorgeous futuristic fairy tale that questions the very nature of what we call life.

    Symbolic.

A husband decides to purchase a robot boy for his wife while their son is very sick and dying in the hospital. At first she is angry like anyone of us would be in her shoes, but then grows attatched. A series of strange and unfortunate events take place and the robot boy is on his own and on a mission to find his way back to her. He comes across Dr. Who (voiced by Robin Williams) and finds all of the answers he was looking for. I completely relate to his character right to the very end.

  • A.I. Artificial Intelligence

It's a Speilberg! Great sfx and story. High-tech Pinocchio. Not really a "family" story. Well, unless your family has been de-sensitized by the movie industry already to sexual and violent content, that is. Then I guess your kiddies won't have nightmares of being shot through a cannon into a large fan that... well, you get the picture. Kind of eerie, in a way how it tries to lead us to believe that we, as humans, want to love and be loved and if we feel loved we can actually return that love. Even to a warm, cuddly machine that's programmed to love us. Ahhh, amore...

  • Review of the movie Artificial Intelligence

This movie has a lot of depth to the story for a sci fi type film. The acting is excellent. Haley is such a great little actor and of course Law is not bad to look at. Law plays an appropriate role, based on what I hear about his real life character, and plays it well. This film is a bit older but the special effects are still quite good compared to today's standards. There is not a lot of gruesome violence or bad language which is nice for a change. How it ends is- Kidding.

  • Entertaining and plausible.

Outlines the difficulties for an 'artificial person' to learn the necessary skills and attributes to become more human than machine in its outlook and interactions. Easy to empathize with the 'child' for being framed by the mother's natural child and being abandoned by her because of it. The world is a dangerous place as as all children should be taught, though he has to learn it by experience. The ending will rip the heart out of anyone who has lost a parent.

  • The sound and the fury was tremendous

Obviously not into sci-fi but I found this one very interesting. The depiction of humans being destructive is unsettling. Glamorized artificial robots comma this I like. There's just not enough artificial intelligence movies...
