The Audioengine B-Fi is easy to set up, simple to control, and features analog & digital outputs for high-resolution audio.

16-Bit/44.1kHz ES9023 DAC: The Audioengine B-Fi employs a 16-bit/44.1kHz ES9023 DAC (digital-to-analog converter) for high-resolution audio playback. It supports compressed music files such as MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, WAV, ALAC, APE, and OGG (up to 16-bit/44.1kHz).

Note: The Audioengine B-Fi does not offer an Ethernet jack for a hardwired connection. It does not support 5GHz WiFi 802.11ac.

You'll be able to control your music, volume, presets (up to 10) and speaker selection from anywhere in your home from the Audioengine Control app on your compatible mobile device.

Online Music Services: Within the Audioengine Control app you have access to a variety of online music services - including Amazon Music, TuneIn, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, and Napster.

Q
I live in an apartment building. Is there a risk that a neighbor could accidentally pair up with this device? I have a cheap Bluetooth receiver now and if I leave it on, in the past neighbors have inadvertently paired with it and played their music through my system since there is no password required.
watt  Sep 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Thankfully, the B-Fi does not use Bluetooth for audio streaming. In order for a neighbor to stream to this device, they would need to be connected to your Wi-Fi network. So long as your Wi-Fi is password protected, this shouldn't be an issue.

Q
Can I record to my reel to reel off of Bluetooth hook to Auxiliary of my preamp ???????
charles  Jun 13, 2023
1 answer
A
I will try to answer as best as I can, Charles. This Audioengine B-Fi Wi-fi streamer uses your home wi-fi connection instead of Bluetooth for a wireless connection for music streaming. It works the same way, but Wi-fi can make a connection that sounds better from a source quality compared to Bluetooth. This would be a great unit to use if you are connecting to your preamp, then using a recording output on that preamp for the reel to reel. If you are making master reel copies of your favorite songs, consider using a high-quality streaming source like Tidal or Quobuz. The B-Fi would be an excellent choice!

Q
When selecting music to play from Amazon music do I use the audio engine app or the Amazon music app? The next question is if I have to use the audio engine app to select music how good is it in terms of user interface?
anthony richard  Feb 28, 2023
1 answer
A
This depends on how you connect, Anthony. You have a multitude of options with the Audioengine B-fi Wi-fi streamer. If you are using iPhone and connect with Airplay you will simply open the Amazon music app and enjoy. Since you will have to install the Audioengine app for setup, you can also open the app and listen to your Amazon through the app. I find that the Audioengine app is very good, so you will enjoy using it!

Q
i have a Marantz 2230b receiver. I am looking at hooking up a blue tooth transmitter. My stereo is in my bar area of the basement. So my question is will the Audio engine B1 work if i am sitting out in my backyard around 100ft away. Yes this is a ?
bryan  Mar 06, 2022

A
The B-Fi interacts with your wi fi. Wherever you get wi fi you can interact with the B fi. The B1 is a different product. Being Bluetooth most devices need to be within about 30 feet. I don't have a B1 so I don't have 1st hand knowledge.
wayne r  Mar 06, 2022
A
I think the distance is fine for blue tooth if there are no barriers involved My audio genie is a receiver for streamed music to my stereo
john  Mar 06, 2022
A
You may have to purchase, setup, & test the B1 for a bit to answer this question. Lot of factors are going to affect the range within your environment. Crutchfield has a very simple & deft return procedure, just retain all product packaging & shipping materials while you check it out.

Q
I would like to play my vinyl and cds from a 1970s vintage amp and turntable over Wi-Fi to wireless speakers that I have yet to buy. Will the audioengine B-Fi be able to do this? If not, what would you suggest.
mike s.  Jan 09, 2022
2 answers
A
I would ask the people at AudioEngine. The B-fi is able to receive DIGITAL info from devices that "cast" from your electronic device, be it a smart phone or capable computer and that info is then sent to either a digital optical output (to another DAC), OR sent to it's own internal DAC that then sends the music information by analogue RCA connections to any device (like a receiver) that has RCA input jacks. If your powered speakers have these type of inputs the B-fi will work. There are wireless powered speakers that can receive Bluetooth and wi fi information and use their own app to integrate and control the music without the need for the B-fi

I'm all Apple devices here and you can either AirPlay a song from any music app resident on your phone or use the AudioEngine app on your phone and stream from there. The AudioEngine app will automatically look for music on music apps it supports, like Amazon, Tidal, Spotify, etc.

Im not sure.. if your android can access Apple music then you should be able to stream from the b-fi app or using a streaming music player like Bubble U PnP. Be aware that using Windows 10 will not play / cast. WMA lossless will, however. It will play FLAC files from my android phone.

I do not stream apple music but I do stream pandora from my iphone or ipad. Real easy. Installation of the streaming device is very easy. Crutchfield support is great

Does this connect to my home wireless network? I want to be able to plug this into my existing powered speakers and play music from my phone (any app) over my home network. I do this now via a bluetooth adapter but the bluetooth range is just not good enough.

The associated Audioengine app does tie to my home Wifi. The app allows me to play music files residing on my phone as well as access to many streaming services from within the app. I was able to add this device as another input source to my old receiver. Works great!

Yes
wayne r  Jul 01, 2021

The B-Fi connects with your home wi-fi, not Bluetooth. Wherever you have wi-fi, you can have music, as long as the B-fi can connect to your receiver or speakers via RCA cables or optical output from the B-fi unit. Be advised, I can play WMA files from my windows 10 desktop, I CANNOT play FLAC files, but FLAC files will Play from my android phone. Despite my pleas, both Crutchfield and Audioengine have not been helpful in this matter. The B-fi literature states it should be able to play FLAC files!
wayne r  Jun 30, 2021

the B-Fi connects to your wireless network and plugs into powered speaker. source (your phone with B-Fi app) acts as the connection point to music source and connects to wi-fi. mote than one B-Fi can be connected and synched to music connection point, if you want.

Hi Keith, Yes, it does hook up to your WiFi network. I think you then just plug it into your powered speakers using RCA or the optical. I have Linksys nodes all over my property and can change the music from my phone from a good distance. Enjoy,. Greg

Q
What is the difference between this unit and having an amplifier that has Bluetooth? I want to play the songs on my iPhone at their best quality. Should I be buying this and hooking it up to my Bluetooth 2-channel amp?
daniel  Dec 31, 2020
3 answers
A
The B-Fi unit receives your digital music over your wi-fi system that you have already in your house probably from your router. It is uncompressed and does not use bluetooth at all . When working it does sound slightly better than bluetooth 5.0 by my ears. My windows 10 will NOT play FLAC files but will play WMA lossless. My Galaxy 20S and Galaxy S9 will play both files with ease. The B-fi connects to the preamp section of your receiver via RCA cables. It also has to be plugged into a power source.

Bluetooth is a one-to-one communication technology. The Streaming anchor-point (often an application on an iPhone which is connected to the music source, or iPhone equivalent) uses Bluetooth to connect to one speaker. As long as the anchor-point stays in Bluetooth range of the speaker, life is good. Connecting to a "powered (amplified) speaker", the Audioengine B-Fi device acts as an anchor-point and communicates through Wi-Fi from the music source. You use the free Audioengine iPhone app to connect and tie the music source to the B-Fi device. You are no longer limited to the Bluetooth range - you are now using WiFi. My reason for buying the B-Fi is that I wanted to connect more than one speaker together. With two B-Fi devices (up to eight are supported) you can group B-Fi's and their speakers together and they will will play the same music, synchronized. Hope this helps . . .
doug  Jan 15, 2021
A
Music streamed thru Bluetooth is compressed, meaning that some of the quality is missing. With the B-fi, it is thru wi-fi and not compressed giving you more cd quality. I tested this when I first got it by listening for about 30 minutes to some Peter White over Bluetooth. I then played the same tracks with the B-fi and there was a nice difference. I can't say it was like night and day, but enough that more of the highs and mid range was improved. With Bluetooth, the music seemed kind of muffled. I would think the quality of speakers should be considered. These are just my own opinions. I am very happy with this unit.

Got this from an Audioengine engineer: Good afternoon from Audioengine, thanks for reaching out to us! When we were in the initial planning and development stages for the B-Fi, we investigated building it to be 24-Bit. What we found though, is that building it to work reliably as a multi-room solution wasn't feasible at 24-bit, and after fully exploring our options, we decided that multi-room functionality with great lossless CD quality playback was a more valuable solution overall. We know that some of the audiophiles out there may consider this egregious, but we're okay with that. To most, this is a reasonable trade-off.
